MS-DOS Disk MAAB
Presented by Colin Justason
This is the second of the TPUG PC disks, MAAB. M = MS-DOS AAB = DISK ID Like
the first disk, I have tried to make it a bit of an all around disk, hopefully
something for everyone. It is again, for the most part a shareware/freeware
disk and you should let your conscience guide you but I suggest that if you
are going to use these programs, that you should pay the programmer something
for his effort, if you find the program useful. Most of the programmers make
contribution suggestions which do not seem out of line, in fact most are a
steal for the quality of their work. I have separated the programs with dummy
files starting with a - and an ext of ---. These files are blank and can be
deleted once you are familiar with the different files and what is required
for each program.
Anyway lets continue with the disk MAAB.
HELP - is the first program and is just that, for all of you who have ever had
a problem with the DOS commands and want to know quickly the proper syntax for
a DOS command. This program does not remain in your machine and requires that
you keep the disk in your drive while you are using the program. Please read
the DOCS so you can get full use of the program.
EZHELP - is the next program which like HELP is suppose to assist you however
this one remains resident in your machine and offers new features to make the
operations easier. Again please read the DOCS.
ZIP - Would you believe a program to maintain your files, do simple editing or
to write Batch files, or just to view a file or how about a small terminal
program for us modem users. If you get bored with this stuff you can always
use it to find your files and run them from within ZIP. You will be returned
to ZIP when you finish with whatever program you are running, unless it
happens to be a protected program then anything goes.
MCAL - is a small calculator which you can call up from the DOS prompt and
provides basic calculator functions.
QMEM - is a program to tell you how much memory you have left over after you
load up the RAM of your machine with print spoolers, printer controllers,
parity checkers and the like.
EDED - A excellent small wordprocessor that should meet most of your needs and
offers a lot of very useful features. The DOCS cover all the features and this
program will allow you to have multi files open at once or have the DOCS on
line in a separate window.
MC - A terrific little program that will allow you to split your computer into
many smaller versions. As I write this I am using this program to split my
machine into three parts, one for the wordprocessor and this file, another to
test Qfiler and show my directory for disk MAAB and a third part to bring up
small applications as required. It also will allow you to take a snapshot of
your screen and write it to disk as well as add a print spooler to those of
you who require one provided you have the DOS program print.com.
QFILER - so similar in looks and operation to the FFM and FM on disk MAAA that
I renamed it FFFM so I could keep it straight. It offers a few extra features
however does require that you have your favorite editor on the same disk as
QFILER renamed list.com, or list.exe as well as having the DOS print command
working. EDED seems to work fine and it allows editing of the files as well as
viewing. You will have to rename EDED.EXE to LIST.EXE if you use it.
Thats it for disk MAAB, please remember the programmers, especially if the
program is one that you plan to use.
